Fritz Gurgiser calls for a halt to the expansion of bed and lift capacity in the Zillertal, in response to the planned 150-bed hotel by the Schultz group at the Uderns golf course. Gurgiser emphasizes that tourism enterprises in the Zillertal must take responsibility towards communities suffering from heavy traffic pressure. "Otherwise, resistance against tourism will continue to increase," he warns, according to the Tiroler Zeitung.
The new luxury hotel, construction of which is set to begin in 2025, is met with mixed reactions. While the mayor of Uderns supports the project, other local officials express criticism. The Transit Forum insists that traffic issues must be addressed before any new construction projects are initiated.
Traffic pressure and legal responsibility
According to Gurgiser, authorities are legally obligated to ensure the safety and flow of traffic. He criticizes the promotion of the Zillertal as a "toll-free destination" via the Achental, a practice he claims heavily burdens communities in the region.
Gurgiser advocates for stricter regulations for new construction projects to prevent tourism developments from further impacting the livability of villages and local traffic.
