Switzerland Increases Avalanche Danger Level

From today until Friday, parts of Switzerland, including the Jungfrau region, are expected to receive 20 to 40 centimeters of snow above 2000 meters, with even higher amounts possible in some areas. As a result of this heavy snowfall, the avalanche risk will increase significantly. According to the latest forecasts, the danger level is expected to rise to level 3 (considerable) throughout the day.

The Avalanche Warning Service has cautioned that fresh wind slabs, formed by the new snow combined with strong winds, are becoming increasingly unstable. These slabs can easily be triggered by a single person, significantly raising the risk of avalanches. Even medium-sized avalanches are possible.

Mountaineers and winter sports enthusiasts are advised to exercise extreme caution and adjust their plans if necessary to ensure safety. Several mountain passes in Switzerland and Austria, including the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, have been preemptively closed due to the large amounts of snow expected.
